While yoga enables us to gain flexibility in our physical bodies, the practice of gently opening the body and listening to it can help us to develop a level of patience we haven't experienced before.
Most people don't arrive on a yoga mat and immediately fold themselves into a pretzel. It takes time, dedication and patience.
In the process of building our physical flexibility we gain something even more valuable: flexibility of the mind.
Yoga can teach us to pause where we would otherwise react. It can teach us to see things from another person's point of view. It can lead us away from drama and towards our path.
So next time you find yourself in a challenging pose and wishing you were more flexible, breathe, be present, and surrender. Be fully in your experience and see what comes to you.
