There has been a recent increase in the theft of pedal cycles across Dacorum.
Berkhamsted particularly has been targeted, with bikes being stolen overnight from locked sheds, garages and gardens. Schools in Hemel Hempstead have also had bikes stolen from cycle racks, even though they had padlocks fitted.
Please make sure that your family’s bikes are securely stored at night and that locks used are adequate. Cheap padlocks are easily forced or smashed off. Make a note of bike frame numbers and take a good photograph so that if the bike is recovered it can be identified easily. Check that your family’s bikes are covered by insurance as they can be expensive to replace!
Register bikes (and other valuables, ’especially mobile phones’) on :- www.immobilise.com
If you see anyone acting suspiciously around secured pedal cycles phone the Police immediately using the 999 system. Do not approach suspects but note descriptions.
