Recently a number of sheds across Dacorum have been broken into. In some crimes the hinge mounting screws were removed to gain access and valuable items stolen.
Police advice is :-
Ensure all sheds are locked with a substantial lock and hasp, preferably a tamper proof version
Use tamper proof screws on door hinges to prevent the door from being removed, if possible use bolts instead of screws to ensure maximum security
Remove items of value from the shed, where this isn’t possible lock expensive items together with a heavy chain to prevent them from being removed
If you have any windows cover them with a metal grille to prevent easy access - when replacing windows consider polycarbonate instead of glass for increased security
Consider using a shed alarm
Even if you have nothing in your shed please lock it, in the past criminals have hidden from the police in unlocked sheds after committing offences!
