Residents are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious incidents to Police, after we received a report of persons calling at homes in the Tring area.
Advising homeowners that work needs doing on their home. A homeowner was told that their chimney and tiles needed repairing/replacing when in fact this was not the case.
We would ask resident to be vigilant to these callers and take some simple crime prevention advice.
If someone calls at your door offering to do some work for you, do not agree to the work there and then or part with any cash.
Don’t take their word that the work needs to be done. Ask for a written quote on headed paper and if you think it does need to be done then get quotes from other local companies or ask friends and relatives for a recommendation.
If you are in doubt, take information and contact Hertfordshire Trading Standards via Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 to check their legitimacy.
The suspicious caller was said to be driving a silver type transit van with some form of flower insignia displayed as a logo on the side.
Residents are asked not to approach any suspicious person but if safe to do so obtain a vehicle registration and any description and report any incidents to Police on the Non Emergency number 0845 33 00 222 quoting in reference to Urn 205 24/02/11 or via the crime stoppers anonymously 0800 555 111
