Neighbourhood Watch News Article

As the warmer days are upon us can I advise everyone to make sure that doors, patio doors and windows are locked and secured even with a key and that the key is in a location that is secure but within easy reach to the you in the event of a fire or emergency.
A good piece of advice for those of you with patio doors to look into getting a bursar bar which secures onto the door preventing the doors from moving giving no access to the burglar. Also I have been informed from a Neighbourhood watch coordinator that she has recently had door jambers placed onto her French windows and doors giving no access to burglars. Simply pulling the handle up on a patio door will not keep a burglar out.
If you are over 60, a single parent or a past victim of crime you are entitled to a free home security survey from a charity called WEST HERTS AGAINST CRIME. They will also do a fire service survey and advise you on how to protect your property. In some cases you may even be able to have your locks and doors changed free of charge. They work with the Police and Fire service providing free advise and it will not cost you a penny. WHAC can be contacted on 01923 801138 or contact me and I will refer you.
