Neighbourhood Watch News Article
Published: 30th October 2010
Recently there has been a noticeable increase in the thefts of garden machinery and power tools from garages and sheds, across Dacorum.
The offenders seem to be travelling across the area and identifying the location of the storage of this type of equipment. In a recent offence a garage attached to a house in Gaddesden Row, Hemel Hempstead, had it’s new up and over garage door smashed in (probably with a sledge hammer) in broad daylight. The garage was used to store the resident’s garden machinery which he used for his trade.
Anyone storing expensive tools or machinery should be made aware of this crime trend and review their security arrangements. Please advise Watch members accordingly.
Also advise Watch members to report any suspicious vehicles, particularly vans or pick-ups, especially in rural areas, using the 999 system.
