Burglary is currently down by over ten per cent across the county and police have been working hard to keep it low. However, with the evenings now darker earlier, here are a few reminders of how to secure your home over the coming months:
It might sounds obvious, but make sure all doors and ground-floor windows are locked and secure before you leave the house or go to bed. Upstairs windows should be locked when the house is unoccupied.
Properly lock PVCu doors by lifting the handle and using the key.
Use timer switches on lamps or leave a light on (preferably low-energy bulbs) to give your home the ‘lived-in’ look when out in the evenings.
There are many other ways to help secure your home. Please visithttp://www.herts.police.uk/secure_your_home/home_security.htm for more advice, or call 0845 33 00 222 to contact your Crime Prevention Officer.
