Pedal cycles have been targeted in Berkhamsted recently. On Monday 26th July, an attempt was made to steal a bike in central Berkhamsted and the following day two bikes were stolen from the town centre area. The bikes had been padlocked. Please pay attention to anyone loitering near to secured bikes, especially in the Berkhamsted area. Do not approach suspects but phone the Police immediately using the 999 system.
Two pairs of vehicle index (number) plates were stolen between Sunday 26th July and Tuesday. One pair was unscrewed from a car in Grove Road, Tring and another pair were removed from a car parked in Havelock Road, Kings Langley. Again please pay special attention to anyone inferring with vehicles during the hours of darkness. Phone the Police using the 999 system if your suspicions are raised. Do not approach suspects.
Several high value cars were ’keyed’ in Cotterells, Hemel Hempstead last Friday night, 23rd July. This type of malicious damage costs a lot to repair and is very distressing for the owners. If you saw or heard anything concerning these offences please phone the Police on 0845 3300222 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
Young men stating they are working with a ’Youth Community Project’ have been attempting to sell inferior products, door to door in Berkhamsted recently. Enquiries have revealed that this is a scam and Police advice is not to deal with ’cold callers’.
A co-ordinator has reported been ’caught out’ by an internet company. She reported the company to the ’Office of Fair Trading’ and was advised that companies can be checked out on :- www.whois.domaintools.com
Another Watch member reported that he had received a phone call from a person claiming to be from ’Microsoft’. He was told that his computer had been infected with a virus and was asked for other personal information. Fortunately he terminated the call. Microsoft never make unsolicited calls to residents. Do not fall for this ’scam’!
