Walk through the night and get grooving in true ‘70’s style while raising money for charity
If you fancy doing something a bit different on the balmy summer evenings, why not don your very best ‘70’s outfit and walk through the night to raise money for a worthy cause. On the night of Saturday 18 June 2011 disco fever will hit the streets of Amersham in Buckinghamshire as Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH - part of the newly-merged charity Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care) holds its fifth annual Goodnight Walk. This year the event will be held in Amersham for the last time and to celebrate this it will be staged as the biggest ‘70’s party in the Chilterns. Hundreds of walkers will dress up in flares, hot pants, wigs and whacky shirts to walk either 5 or 10 miles to raise money for the IRHH nursing service.
The overnight Walk is open to both men and women - after all, no ‘70’s party would be complete without a few John Travoltas along the way! Entry will cost £15 which includes a t-shirt, medal, refreshments along the route (including chocolate!) and a bacon butty and reviving cuppa on the finish line. Each walker will be encouraged to raise £150 which is the cost of an Iain Rennie nurse for 24 hours and the overall target for fundraising will be £75,000. Prizes will be awarded on the night for the best costumes and organisers expect a fantastic atmosphere. Community & Events Fundraising Manager, Ruth Barber commented:
“We are really excited about the theme for this year’s Goodnight Walk as the ‘70’s is always popular. It’s a great chance for people to get out and do something different and the money raised will make a huge difference to people with life-limiting illness across the Chilterns.”
Previous participants have included former patients who have completed successful cancer treatments, teams walking in memory of friends or family members and a number of ‘hens’ choosing to host their special pre-nuptial celebrations in a novel way raising money for charity.
