A team of cleaners who look after the day to day needs of staff working at the busy Hospice of St Francis and keep the building spotless have ’pledged’ to dust off their trainers and join in the annual fundraising midnight walk.
Calling themselves Henry’s Hoovers, the three cleaners are also planning the challenge to help them lose weight.
Dawn Harmsworth and Clive Jones have worked at the Hospice of St Francis since December last year and Liz for more than three years.
Dawn, 50, from Hawthorn Lane has also recruited her daughter Kerry.
She said: ”It originally started when I decided to lose a little bit of weight. We were all talking and said we should do our bit to contribute too because very often we also see first hand the amazing work the Hospice does.”
Clive, from The Paddocks, Hertford Heath added: ”We wanted to do something worthwhile. It will be a challenge for us. We’ve been doing well with our weight loss and meeting our targets with regular exercise and nutritious meals so we will hopefully be prepared.”
Adds Dawn: ”We do get close to some of the patients sometimes. I’ve even been lucky enough to be asked to attend a wedding blessing here so for us it has double impact. I will be walking in memory of that patient and all the other lovely people we have come into contact with here.”
Henry’s Hoovers hope to raise more than £1000 and have even decided to drag their little red Henry Hoover around the route with them.
Judeth Neville, Hospice of St Francis contracts manager said: ”We are delighted to see the team so dedicated in taking part in this event and we hope their enthusiasm will inspire many others to join in too.”
