The site of a new development of fourteen homes in Manor Street in the heart of the Berkhamsted Conservation Area was unveiled to the public at the weekend in an official opening ceremony attended by Dr Ros Taylor from the Hospice of St Francis.
Although the scheme was only formally launched on Saturday, sales on the site are progressing rapidly with the first residents already taking up occupation.
The hospice is benefiting from a contribution of £1,000 for every house sold and Eric Gadsden, Managing Director of the developers W E Black Ltd was able to present Dr Taylor with an initial cheque for £9,000.
In introducing Dr Taylor, Mr Gadsden said: ”We are very proud of this new development designed by leading local architect Bill Macleod and at the same time are delighted to continue to support this prominent local charity which is so highly valued in the local community.”
The site, a former social services building has just five homes remaining to be sold.
Dr Taylor said: ”As we rely on donations for 80% of our income each year, the money we receive from the sales of these properties will be hugely welcomed to boost funding for our vital services.”
”We’d like to thank the developers and Cole Flatt for their support.”
Adrian Cole, senior partner at Berkhamsted based Cole Flatt added: ”It is most appropriate for the Hospice to benefit from this partnership. We are confident the remaining properties will soon be sold and a further cheque will be on the way to the hospice.”
Berkhamsted based Hospice of St Francis is the only inpatient unit with special facilities that allow patients to be cared for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
