Spend a day immersed in nature, writing with others at College Lake Nature Reserve
Saturday 17 December, 10am to 3pm
Take part in this unique opportunity to experience the beauty and wildness of College Lake nature reserve, near Tring, and explore your relationship with the natural world in an exciting new way.
Winter Words will introduce you to the art form Renga, a Japanese art of writing that is related to the Haiku poem, and always produced with others, often within the natural environment.
Subhadassi, photographer and poet, will be working with you to develop your inner creativity as you discover the winter wildlife on the nature reserve.
Winter Words is part of the We are Here project, a collaboration at the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust’s College Lake nature reserve with Subhadassi and Outdoor Culture. We are Here is funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme and the Aylesbury Vale Community Chest.
Among the wildlife you are likely to see at College Lake nature reserve are birds such as redwing and fieldfare harvesting berries and fruit from the hedgerows, and flocks of lapwing at the water’s edge. The winter winds have brought in migrant wigeon and teal from continental Europe to swim and feed among the resident geese and swans.
Images and words from We are Here will be gathered to produce a blog, exhibition and book. Writing from the Winter Words event will be published in one of these media.
Booking is essential: contact Cathie Hasler at BBOWT on 01442 826774 or cathiehasler@bbowt.org.uk
Weather permitting, we will be working outside for most of the time, so bring appropriate clothing, something to sit on outside, as well as a pen or pencil – we will provide the paper!
The café in the Visitor Centre at College Lake will be open for hot and cold drinks and light refreshments; you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch to eat there.
