There have been recent changes to government recommendations for physical activity and Hertfordshire Health Walks wanted to take the opportunity to remind you about the wide range of walks we offer and update you with our plans to take part in National Walk4Life Day coming up on 25th September.
We’re always keen to get as many people as possible out on our walks, enjoying meeting new people, taking steps towards their 150 minutes a week and enjoying the many subsequent benefits of brisk walking. To give you an idea of how popular the county-wide health walk programme is, between April and June 2011 approximately 160 trained (nationally certified and evaluated) volunteers helped more than 1000 people walk regularly on approximately 500 walks, which has resulted in 5800 total walk attendances. Find out more about why your service users are missing out if they haven’t made it along to one of our walks before.
We provide a range of nationally accredited walks which cater to a wide range of different ages and abilities including basic ‘First Steps’ walks which are walks of 0.5 mile distance, 20 minutes duration, on flat surfaces with regular stopping points. Our walks are all very sociable, friendly and welcoming and they’re all FREE. Please help us to spread the message, particularly amongst patients/service users at risk of osteoporosis, mild depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, Alzheimers, coronary heart disease and bowl cancer (the risk or effect of many conditions - is likely to be reduced by brisk walking, as indicated by research endorsed by health clinicians).
If you want to take part in the celebrations for National Walk4Life Day please take a look at the Walk4Life website which lists all of our walks in Hertfordshire in the few days before and after 25th September.
