The enchanting classic Coppelia will be performed by the European Ballet Company on the 10th April at the Centenary Hall in Berkhamsted. The Espinosa Chute Centre (ECC) are delighted to announce that pupils studying ballet at the centre have been given the unique opportunity to perform on stage with these professional dancers, from many different countries who constitute the company under the Directorship of Stanislav Tchassov.
The children will perform during the last act. Four boys and four girls will perform a character dance in front of the villagers, habour guests and the protaganists, which will culminate in festivities in honour of Swanilda and Franz’s wedding. Dr Coppelius sits with the children and watches the young lovers rejoice with their friends, his dream of bringing Coppelia to life is never to be but his spirits are lifted by the happy event and he joins the children in their dance around Swanilda as the final curtain falls. In Act 1 and 3 the more advanced ballet dancers from the Centre will perform as extras taking the roles of guests and friends of Swanilda’s party.
The EEC is eager to develop both national and international links so that students can receive the widest possible experience of Dance at all levels. This collaboration with the European Ballet is a wonderful opportunity for the younger members of the Espinosa Ballet Academy to learn from professionals.
The Espinosa Ballet Academy, which has just over 350 children and adults attending weekly ballet classes, is run by Corinna Chute (Artistic Director of the Espinosa Academy) and comprises 6 staff which includes ex-professionals and most recently the Principal Dancer of The English National Ballet, Yat-sen Chang.

The new Education Dept at Espinosa will also be offering the opportunity for pupils to study for their GCSE and A Level Dance Examinations from next September.
