Tune in to the spellbinding natural symphony of birdsong this Sunday 1 May and celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day with your local wildlife trust.
At College Lake, the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve near Tring, you can celebrate nature’s wake-up call between 4.30 and 7am – and then enjoy a bacon sandwich and cup of tea in the visitor centre café.
“We’ll be having a guided walk around the lake and along paths near the hedgerows and woodland, listening to the birds and identifying as many as we can,” says Nancy Reed, warden of College Lake. “This is a popular event, so call us on 01442 826774 to book your place.”
Chris Williams, Head of Conservation and Education for Buckinghamshire, says: “International Dawn Chorus Day is a great time to really appreciate the sights and sounds of nature. We can help you create a wildlife garden so you can have that spring symphony on your doorstep.”
Keen bird watchers will want to join a guided walk through Wendover Woods on Sunday morning from 7 to 10am, to spot and listen to woodland birds, and maybe catch sight of the elusive firecrest, arguably the smallest bird in the UK. Booking essential via Richard Tomlin on 01494 774682.
