Held in a delightful, private family garden in the middle of Markyate village, you could not wish for a better venue in which to select your summer bedding plants. On Saturday 5th June the Deputy Mayor of Dacorum, Councillor Gillian Chapman, and Mike Penning MP will be in attendance at the annual Markyate Plant Sale at No 64 High Street, Markyate.
Gardeners can choose from over 5000 plants, be entertained, hear about the work of the Hospice of St Francis or purchase greeting cards and other items from the Hospice stall. There will also be a raffle with prizes such as handmade garden ornaments, lunch at one of our country pubs, a coach trip and other desirable prizes.
Your children will be entertained whilst you enjoy the very best freshly-brewed ground coffee or tea served with a variety of cakes and biscuits. You can relax with your friends and meet the Deputy Mayor of Dacorum or our MP, all whilst listening to gentle live music in a country garden. This year there are two bands playing: The Woburn Sands Silver Band until mid-day and the Jolly Jazzers for the remainder of the event. Picnic lunches will give you yet another reason to extend your stay. |

This is Markyate’s Party of the Year freely open to all who love their gardens and the Hospice of St Francis. The ‘Plant Sale’ – as Markyate knows it – has been supporting the Hospice for more than half its thirty-one years, making ever greater donations to its remarkable work.
Says Ian Bradley, organiser of the event: “Last year we raised a fantastic £4,000. This year we hope – with your help – to give the Hospice an even larger gift to support the invaluable care they provide.”

It is the only inpatient unit with special facilities that allow patients to be cared for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also helps patients who are seriously ill at home and in day hospice but needs to raise more than £3.3 MILLION every year. See www.stfrancis.org.uk for more information. |
