Berkhamsted is a bustling market town situated to the West of the county of Hertfordshire, nestled in a valley surrounded by the Chiltern Hills.

The history of Berkhamsted dates back to William the Conqueror and beyond, and there are many historical buildings still to be seen in Berkhamsted in the form of Berkhamsted castle ruins and timber framed buildings dotted along the charming High Street, part of the Akeman Street of Roman times.

Historically Berkhamsted owes much of its commerce to the Grand Union Canal opened through Berkhamsted in 1798, up until the Second World War the canal was a principal artery of the industrial revolution linking London with the west Midlands. Now the Grand Union Canal is mainly used for recreational purposes and supports a colourful display of barges. This important transport link has been superceded by the railway line, providing access from Berkhamsted to London Euston in 35 minutes and Birmingham to the North, and has useful links to the Gatwick express. 15 mins driving connects Berkhamsted town with the M1 and the M25.
